Building Stronger Pathways for Women Candidates

The Centre for Inclusive and Accountable Governance (CIAG) convened a strategic engagement focused on strengthening pathways for women candidates to compete effectively for elected positions in Somaliland.

The event brought together political actors, community leaders, and aspiring women candidates to explore practical approaches for strengthening women’s electoral participation and leadership. Discussions focused on campaign strategies, effective public engagement, and the importance of political party structures that provide meaningful opportunities for women to participate and compete.

The engagement recognised that increasing women’s representation requires more than encouraging women to seek political office. It also requires stronger preparation, effective engagement with communities, supportive political environments, and institutional structures that enable women to participate on a more equitable basis.

Through this initiative, CIAG contributed to dialogue on practical strategies that can help women candidates strengthen their campaigns, connect with voters and communities, and navigate political processes more effectively.

The event forms part of CIAG’s broader commitment to advancing women’s political leadership and supporting more inclusive and representative governance systems in Somaliland. By creating spaces for political actors, community stakeholders, and women candidates to exchange knowledge and perspectives, CIAG continues to promote pathways towards greater representation of women in elected leadership.
