Strengthening Inclusive Participation in Electoral Processes
The Centre for Inclusive and Accountable Governance (CIAG) participated in a stakeholder engagement with the leadership of the ruling WADDANI Party, including Chairman Mr. Xirsi Cali X. Xasan, Deputy Chairman Mr. Cabdirashiid Maxamed Yuusuf, and senior party officials.
The engagement also brought together representatives from civil society organisations, including the Center for Democracy & Governance (CDG) and Adam Academy, creating an opportunity for dialogue between political party leadership and civil society actors on inclusive political participation.
Discussions focused on strengthening the participation and representation of women and marginalised communities in the upcoming House of Representatives and Local Council elections. The engagement highlighted the importance of creating political and electoral processes that provide meaningful opportunities for underrepresented groups to participate and contribute to decision-making.
CIAG welcomed the commitment expressed by the WADDANI leadership towards supporting inclusive political participation and advancing fair and equitable representation. The engagement also underscored the importance of continued collaboration between political parties and civil society in promoting democratic participation.
Through its participation, CIAG continues to advocate for inclusive governance and greater representation of women and marginalised communities in Somaliland’s political processes. Sustained engagement among political actors, civil society organisations, and communities remains important for strengthening democratic participation and building more representative institutions.
