Advancing Women’s Political Participation and Leadership
On 29 June 2025, the Centre for Inclusive and Accountable Governance (CIAG) convened key stakeholders in Hargeisa for a strategic planning engagement focused on strengthening women’s participation in political leadership ahead of the 2026 parliamentary process.
The engagement provided an opportunity to reflect on the opportunities and challenges facing women seeking to enter political and decision-making spaces. Participants contributed to discussions aimed at developing a clear and coordinated roadmap for supporting women aspiring to parliamentary leadership.
The planning process placed emphasis on strengthening women’s preparedness, leadership capacity, political engagement, and ability to effectively participate in decision-making processes. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration among relevant stakeholders in creating an enabling environment for women’s meaningful participation in political life.
The engagement forms part of CIAG’s broader commitment to promoting inclusive governance and advancing women’s representation in leadership. By investing in strategic preparation and coordinated action, CIAG seeks to support women to participate more effectively, influence public decision-making, and contribute to shaping Somaliland’s future.
