Advancing Inclusive Political Representation
The Centre for Inclusive and Accountable Governance (CIAG), together with the Center for Democracy & Governance (CDG) and Adam Academy, held a strategic engagement with leaders of the Kaah Opposition Party to discuss ways of strengthening political inclusion and representation in Somaliland.
The discussion focused on ensuring meaningful representation of women and marginalised groups in both the House of Representatives and Local Councils. Participants examined the importance of creating political processes that provide underrepresented groups with greater opportunities to participate in leadership, elections, and decision-making.
During the engagement, the Kaah Party reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying the voices of women and youth and expressed its readiness to work closely with civil society organisations to advance inclusive governance and equitable political participation ahead of the 2026 national elections.
The meeting provided an important platform for dialogue between political actors and civil society, highlighting the role of political parties in creating more inclusive political institutions and ensuring that diverse voices are represented within Somaliland’s democratic processes.
The engagement forms part of CIAG’s continued efforts to strengthen constructive dialogue with political actors and promote greater participation, representation, and accountability in Somaliland. Through sustained engagement with political parties and civil society stakeholders, CIAG seeks to contribute to an electoral environment in which women, youth, and marginalised communities can participate meaningfully and have their voices heard.
