Preparing Women for Parliamentary Engagement

The Women Advisory Office of the Somaliland House of Representatives concluded a three-day preparatory training for 82 women selected from government institutions, political parties, and civil society organisations across Somaliland, with support from the Centre for Inclusive and Accountable Governance (CIAG).

The training covered key areas including parliamentary functions, the Constitution, legislative processes, parliamentary procedures, and media engagement. These sessions were designed to prepare participants for their upcoming experience inside the House of Representatives through the Parliament Open Day for Women (PODW-2026).

Through PODW-2026, the 82 participating women will take their seats in Parliament, present mock legislative cases, and bring their professional knowledge and lived experiences into a parliamentary setting.

The programme provides an opportunity for women to better understand Parliament, engage directly with the legislative process, and contribute their perspectives within a parliamentary environment.

Program objectives

  • Prepare 82 women for their upcoming parliamentary experience.
